We tried a strategically difficult trip in May to see both Robison's and Miller's. It was busy, busy, busy but so much fun. We were able to see and do more things this time through the help of my parents and siblings giving us rides and a place to sleep!
The plane ride was uneventful (which is code for amazing!)
Owen even fell asleep for a while sitting in his own chair.
We arrived in Calgary and were able to stay in town with my brother for the first few days. It was so nice not to drive 3 hours all the way back to Coaldale after a 9 hour flight.
The next day we started with a bang and headed straight to the:
They had a new exhibit with penguins which was 'cool'
In the Butterfly Room
The whole family gathered in Red Deer for pictures. We didn't plan on the weather being so cold; Calgary had 2-3 inches of snow that morning, and Grandpa locked his keys in the van while trying to warm it up. OOPS minor set back
We stopped at the Calgary LDS temple before driving to Banff. It's so nice to know Alberta now has 3 temples.
Banff was beautiful! This was our hotel.
Even though the wind was cold the hot tub was warm.
Heading out for a walk
Ran into a little wildlife and a Canadian Mountie
Banff has funny named roads: Lynx and Gopher
Stopped at Cold Stone for a treat
The next day we ventured up Mount Sulphur via gondola
Finally reached the top
and there was SNOW, which meant a snowball fight between Ava and Grandpa
Ava left her mark in the snow
After Banff we drove down to Radium Hot Springs and stayed for a few days.
The boys went golfing and the girls tried to shop. Radium sure doesn't have a lot.
My kids discovered the joy of A&W
On our way back we stopped at Fort Steele, an old mining town.
(Unknown to us this is where dad has the first warning signs of his pending heart attack 1 week later)
Dave getting a little too close to the horses
Fort Steele Jail House
I loved it at the Fort, a piece of my Alberta history.
Europe is really cool but so is my home land.
With only 3 days being spent in Coaldale we had to make the most of them. We went to the park, and visited Grandma at the University.
Sleep over with the cousins. This is the kind of stuff I wish my kids had more of. . . FAMILY TIME!
I organized a Klassen BBQ. It is really hard to see everyone when you only have a few days.
Then as quickly as we arrived in town we left for Montana. We were meeting the Miller's in East Glacier, and had rented a cabin. Thanks so much for making the long drive to see us, it was a blast!
Bear tracks in the mud
Check out the snow wall on the side of the road!
The last long drive, back to Alberta and a quick stop at the Cardston Temple before flying back to England.
